The night got longer: what’s new in Bonestorm Survivors

Bonestorm Survivors gameplay: the hero holds off the horde between glowing lava vents in the Volcanic Forge.

When we opened the beta, Bonestorm Survivors had seven worlds and eleven heroes, and the question we heard most was some version of "I beat Nightmare, now what?". This update is our answer. We are not going to list everything in it. Half the fun of a game like this is finding out what is behind the next door, so think of this post as a map with some of the labels missing.

Five more worlds

The night now runs through twelve worlds. Past the Spider Catacombs you will find a burned orc war camp, a flooded jungle temple, a haunted castle, islands floating above the clouds, and farmland that something has been eating. Each has its own horde, its own music, its own hazard and its own final boss. We are keeping the bosses' names to ourselves for now.

Twenty heroes

Nine new heroes joined the roster. Two of them are on the game page: the Thorn Druid, who roots the horde in thorns, and the Drowned Oracle, whose power rises and falls with the tide. The others include a monk who blocks with his bare hands and someone who fights with blood. Each has a trait that changes how a run plays, not just a bigger number.

The arsenal grew with them: there are now 35 weapon evolutions. Twenty are named on the game page. The other fifteen are yours to find.

Every world ends in a boss. Some have one more, if you know how to wake it.

After Nightmare

A strong save used to run out of things to do. Now it has somewhere to go:

  • The Abyss is a ladder of sixty depths, each harder than the last. Something waits at the bottom.
  • The Colossus is a weekly world boss that cannot be killed, only broken. You get three minutes to shatter as much of its armour as you can, and a different colossus rises every week.
  • Boss Rush sends every boss you have met at you, back to back. Endless Night keeps the clock running after the final boss falls.
  • Curses let you make Nightmare harder on purpose for bigger rewards, and on Nightmare the final bosses no longer stay in their first form.
  • Daily Trials and the Weekly Challenge bring something new every day and every week, with leaderboards to compare results.

Things to collect

Between runs there is a lot more to build. Gear comes in sets whose bonuses change how you play. Fourteen companion pets follow you into battle, each with its own ability, and a few are only earned in the hardest places. Heroes and weapons both rank up with use. The Bestiary fills in as you meet new enemies, and some of its pages stay blank until you find what is hiding. Limited-time events will take over a world now and then with their own twists, boss and shop, and each season brings new hero skins.

Seven languages

Bonestorm Survivors now speaks English, German, French, Spanish (Latin America), Portuguese (Brazil), Korean and Traditional Chinese, and more languages are coming. If you play in one of them and something reads oddly, tell us through Send feedback in Settings.

Coming next: cloud save

Game accounts with cloud save are built and being tested on our side. Once they are switched on, your progress will survive a new phone. Until then it stays on your phone, as it always has.
